Out with the old, in with the new

I still can't believe this really happened. We had set a deadline. We needed to sell it by a certain date or we were going to take it off the market, finish the apartment and get a renter in there to help offset some of the cost. We were getting really close to that deadline and we were not having a lot of showings. It had really slowed down. Then a family came to look at it for a second time. Apparently they were trying to buy another house that was a short sale but it wasn't working out so they were getting out of that deal and wanted to get in to our house. After a little bit of back and forth, we had a deal! And it turned out to be better than we were hoping for!! We did list the house as AS IS, meaning we were not willing to fix anything else on it! After the inspection they came back with a long list of things they wanted us to fix! Our realtor reminded them that we didn't want to do any more work and we narrowed it down to 5 things they wanted us to do. One of them was repair a pipe which was expensive!! I think the Realtors thought that it might fall through because we didn't want to do what the buyers wanted, but in the end it all worked out!

We were really hoping that we would get to close a little bit early on the new house so that we were not homeless for a few days, but that didn't happen. We actually ended up closing a few days later than we thought! We loaded up most of the big stuff in the Budget truck on a Saturday. We had to be out of the house by Tuesday night. For the next few days we packed up all of the other stuff and started to clean. We had until 9pm on Tuesday to be out and we were turning off lights and locking the door at 9:05pm when the new owners were on their way over! I was so thankful to have people come help us that night. There was absolutely no way we would have been able to do it! Guys were moving stuff and a few ladies came over to help me clean! It was crazy!! You always think you won't be scrambling at the last minute, then there we were running around like crazy to get it all done! Funny side note: After moving all day and being super stressed and tired, I gave the new owners the wrong code for the front door lock! I don't know what I was thinking! My realtor called me just after we had left to say that they couldn't unlock the door. I said I would turn around and come do it for them. While on the phone with her she repeated the code to me and I realized that I totally gave them the wrong one! I felt so bad and dumb at the same time! It was freezing cold that night so I guess the new owners were a bit cranky by the time they got the door unlocked! Oops!

Since we couldn't move in to the new place yet, we didn't have anywhere to park the huge 16 foot Budget truck AND trailer that held all of our belongings. The buyers were kind enough to let us park them in the back of the driveway for a few days. We were able to stay with some friends which was so nice! We stayed in their basement so we had our own space! It was rough trying to keep the kids entertained with only the things they had packed in their backpacks. It was kind of devastating when we found out we wouldn't be closing on the new house on Friday, it would be Monday! They were nice enough to let us stay a few more days! Our buyers insisted that we move the trucks though. So we moved them to our friend's auto body shop parking lot! Who knew it takes a village to move a family!

We tried to keep busy by going to the store and to the mall to run around!

We did laundry and watched movies!

Finally we got in to the new house!! We were all so excited and relieved that they whole process was over!!

Since we moved in on a Monday night and it is hard to find moving help in the dark, on a weeknight, we dumped most of our stuff in the garage! What a mess!!

I think the kids were most excited to have a gas fireplace. They are still amazed by it every time we turn it on! To be honest, I am enjoying it too! Makes the room so warm and it feels cozier too!

We are still unpacking and trying to organize. It doesn't quite feel like our house yet but it's getting there! We have some pictures on the way and it's definitely messy like our house!
